Tertiary Teaching Excellence Awards

The Tertiary Teaching Excellence Awards are annual awards aimed at recognising and promoting excellence amongst tertiary teachers.

In 2001, the Government established annual awards for outstanding tertiary teachers.

The purpose of the awards is to:

  • recognise and encourage excellence in tertiary teaching
  • encourage and promote good practice
  • enhance career development for teachers by valuing and rewarding excellent teaching practice.

The selection process is undertaken by a Tertiary Teaching Awards Committee, appointed by the Minister for Tertiary Education, Hon Michael Cullen, and is supported by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

Since 2007, the Awards have been administered by Ako Aotearoa The National Centre for Tertiary Teaching Excellence.
